Wikis in Online Education

Evaluation of http://wik.ed.uiuc.edu/index.php/Wikis_in_Online_Education

After completing the Evaluation Checklist, I had a few questions about the purpose for this wiki. It is hosted by the University of Illinois At Urbana-Champagne. There seems to be one main contributor and a few other secondary contributors. I was unable to tell if this is a source of information about wikis for the faculty or if this is the product of a student’s research.

The information seemed very accurate and thorough. It is presented in a very organized, professional manner.

Under the heading What Types of WIKIs? is a list of types of wikis. I found especially interesting http://wikibooks.org .

Norma Scagnoli seems to be the creator of the site. She's a teacher and Ph.D. student at UIUC.

It does look like a good start. I have a feeling that she created this for some sort of training intervention. Otherwise, she could have linked to many other much better entries.

So, in the end, what is your opinion on the reliability of the information on this page?

1) It's on a university server, however who knows who is really sponsoring it (the content).
2) The main author seems to be an instructor, but also a student.
3) There is very little collaboration on this wiki (fewer editors might indicate less reliable information).
4) The information seems to be more of an outline than a comprehensive discussion of the technology and pedagogical uses.

Given these points and your overall impression, how much do you trust the information on this site?
